Prints Charming

That summer holiday may already be a distant memory, but some hazy recollection of glorious, sun-soaked interiors could be lingering. So why not consider adding some cool, eye-catching pattern to your kitchen?

Moroccan and vintage styles have had a huge influence and this is largely because the colours and patterns are extremely versatile, they can be incorporated into classic and contemporary schemes to add warmth, colour and personality to your kitchen design.

Feature splashbacks are a great way to make an impact without overpowering the room. Look for intricate patterns and bold colours and let your creativity take over. If you prefer to tone it down you can opt for a grey, black or blue and white design, adding plain tiles to break up the look. Bold prints and colours tend to work best in smaller spaces.

For large open-plan kitchens, consider patterned floor tiles around the working part of the room such as the cooking area, island or breakfast bar, then add complementing plain field tiles for the remaining space. If you like the idea of covering a large area of flooring with pattern, try to avoid graphic geometrics, which could be too harsh and dominate the space, and go for something more decorative such as swirls or florals instead.

To finish, team with neutral cabinetry to ensure the floor takes centre stage. The latest looks for flooring include rustic, traditional materials such as natural stone and quarry tiles in earthy colours including deep shades of red and beige. For safety, choose anti-slip porcelain and go for more unusual shapes such as hexagons.
