Maintaining large format porcelain tiles
When it comes to interior design, large format tiles are a popular choice and are perfect for those who want to embrace minimalism and create an illusion of space in an interior. Porcelain is the most common material for large format tiles and many of them have rectified edges – straight polished sides. Large format tiles are available in a variety of colours and styles – all thanks to modern production processes.
However, large format tiles require careful attention – whether this is general maintenance or sealing. So, how should they be maintained and what products should you use for general maintenance and sealing? Here, you will find some information about a few of our products.
For everyday cleaning, we recommend FILA Cleaner; a gentle detergent that is safe for pre-treated and sensitive surfaces. When diluted it does not need rinsing and does not leave residues. Normal detergents on the other hand, often contain shine additives that deposit on the floor and overtime form unsightly streaks and marks or make the surface slightly sticky, therefore attracting dirt even more easily. A 1 litre bottle of FILA Cleaner when diluted 1:200 has a coverage of 1500sqm.
For correct cleaning both before and after installation, we recommend FILA Deterdek; an acid-based cleaner that removes encrusted dirt after installation and building site dirt without altering the appearance or colour of the materials. Compared to other acid-based cleaners Deterdek does not release fumes that are harmful for the operator or the environment. Prior to installation of large format tiles, thorough cleaning with Deterdek is important to ensure that the back of the tiles are free from dust or impurities that could reduce the efficacy of the adhesive used.
If the large format tiles you have chosen are slightly porous, ensure the correct sealant is used. For sealing, we recommend FILA MP90; the best stain protection for polished porcelain. This product has various advantages; it does not alter the natural colour of the surface, it does not form a film, it is ready to use so there is no need for dilution and most beneficial of all, it seals and protects making maintenance easier.
