Installing Underfloor Heating

Many people are now opting for underfloor heating, due to the comfortable heat distribution and luxury it brings to the home. Our WarmUp underfloor heating systems are the leading and bestselling range, though we do offer alternative brands to give customers a wider variety to choose from.

You can install underfloor heating in the form of a loose wire, mesh or foil mats; the choices are plentiful. However, it is important when installing heated flooring that you know exactly what you are doing, and how to correctly tile onto it without any hiccups or hindrances.

Because heated floors change frequently in temperature, the adhesive under your tiles can expand and contract. In turn, this can cause the tiles to fracture and come away from the surface. With adequate preparation, there are ways that you can prevent this from happening, such as using the correct tile adhesive and grout when tiling onto heated floors.

Your underfloor temperature must be no higher than 15°C during tile application, as too much heat will force dry and damage the adhesive and grout.

A fast-setting, flexible adhesive such as our UltraTileFix range is most suitable for tiling onto heated flooring. Always refer to the instructions on the bag, as different products require differing quantities of water when mixing.

Once the tiling and grouting are complete, the temperature must remain the same for around 7 days. After which, your underfloor heating can gradually be brought up to its full working temperature.
