Consider tiles in the bedroom

Tiles may not be the first choice that springs to mind when choosing your bedroom flooring, but they’re definitely worth considering. Aside from being easy to maintain, tiles are the perfect partner for underfloor heating – creating a hygienic and toasty floor for those bare toes in the morning and evening.

The bathroom, kitchen and hallway are the most common places tiles are used, but many of you have now decided to ditch that boring beige carpet in the bedroom and opt for something a little more extravagant. I mean, tiles are simply gorgeous and they will not only provide a great floor covering but also help add interest to a design scheme.

Unlike carpet which is the most common flooring choice for bedrooms, tiles do not attract dust and dirt, making for a very easy life in regards to maintenance. And as bedrooms can be subject to high foot traffic, it is important that the floor is strong and durable, which tiles are. Granted, tiles will cost more upfront than carpet but they will last longer than carpet ever would, which makes them a long-lasting investment.

Thankfully, there are many options available these days, so you can be confident that there’s porcelain, ceramic or natural stone tiles to suit your bedroom.

Polished porcelain floor tiles are perfect for making an impact in the bedroom as there reflective properties will help to emphasize the ornate fittings. As they are impervious to water, they are ideal for creating a cohesive look if your bedroom has an en-suite.

For a more natural look, consider wood-effect tiles. Not only do they offer durability along with versatility but they feature all the unique characteristics that you would expect to find in real wood flooring. Wood-effect tiles can also be used on walls, allowing you to create a beautiful feature wall. They will perfectly complement shabby-chic and Scandinavian décor which often incorporates distressed furniture.

Do not rule out ceramic tiles, as they are quickly becoming recognised as acceptable for use throughout the home including in bedrooms. Not only are they available in various styles and sizes, they are brilliant for those of you who are on a budget. Thanks to the latest production techniques, ceramic tiles come in a whole multitude of designs – this includes stone and marble effect.
