This Christmas why don’t you buck the trend of the traditional Christmas colour scheme when it comes to your festive décor and try out one of these alternatives.

Christmas is a time of year when the home lights up with festive decorations adding to the excitement of the festivities. Most homes will have their favourite themes which are used year on year but change is always good so it could be time to try something new.

Purple & grey

Let’s start with a slightly unusual one although one which has a magical feel to it and matches the spirit of the holidays perfectly. Whether used as a whole scheme or with select pieces such as a Christmas wreath or a mantelpiece feature. Both inside and outside the home this colour scheme will provide a joyful and festive ambiance. Use silver as the glittering accent to make your house sparkle this Christmas.

Black, white & gold

For all the avid lovers of everything monochrome out there, black and white is a classic colour combination but not one which is usually associated with Christmas. But believe us when we say, it looks gorgeous! Oozing style and providing a modern, crisp look this one is sure to feature in several home this year.

Pure white

The long standing classic colour scheme which you can never go wrong with even when there is no snow on the ground you can create a magical feeling with this colour scheme.

Instead of a natural green tree why not get an artificial white tree, the tree itself will create a focal point and need minimal decoration. Some minimal lights and delicate ornaments will be all which is needed to make a stunning tree.

Throughout the home use white candles, and keep smaller decorations in white also but remember to add a accent colour to bring the focus onto the white.

Green & brown

Think mountain chalets and country houses this theme has a natural, raw feel to it and creates a real rustic ambience. No matter where you are spending the holidays this theme is a perfect choice. Use natural materials for ornaments such as wood, pine cones, brown paper and hessian sacks. With a real Christmas tree creating the final touch to this all natural look.

Multi colour

Let the imagination run wild with this colour scheme, although don’t be fooled by thinking you can use just anything, these colour schemes can require more planning then a single colour to create the look desired.

Cover that tree from top to bottom with a blast of colour, get the ribbon, glitter and feathers but be sure to use a few matching colours or you could end up with a  colour cacophony.

Not just for hair, the ombre look is on trend in all aspects of life this year so why not add it into your festive decorations. An elegant, sophisticated look is created whilst still having a soothing effect. You can get creative and choose your colours which you want to fade from and into.

The ombre effect can be used by either arranging decorations from light to dark or by using spray on the tree to create an ombre base then using decorations and ornaments in matching colours. The final effect will be stunning.

Blue & purple

Anything but traditional, but sometimes it’s a good idea to buck the trend, if you’re a fan of royal grandeur then this is the colour scheme for you.

To make this scheme truly regal you need to go over the top, everything should be overindulgent and applied in a repetitive colour combination and wrap the tree in lavish excess. Use silver or gold accents to add even more royal splendor and a touch of sparkle.
