Home updates for the festive period
With December right around the corner it’s easy to get carried away with those last minute home updates for the festive period. With limited time before Christmas you need to make easy changes which will make the biggest difference.
Bathroom
Quite often the bathroom can be forgotten but if you’re having guests round there’s a chance they will use the loo whilst there. Simple updates such as a fresh set of towels in an enhancing colour or add a set of fresh flowers to add colour and fragrance to the room. Pretty toiletries and a hand cream are always a nice touch.
Kitchen Tidy Up
The kitchen is now a popular socialising room within the home so you’ll want to declutter to allow you to whip up a festive feast with no stress. Declutter the cupboards making note of anything you may need to repurchase and in turn this will make space to make sure the sides can be clear so there is plenty of cooking space.
Guest Bedroom
It’s likely that you’ll have guests staying over the festive period so spruce up the spare room and give it a Christmas theme. A new set of sheets or even just a winter styled cushion as an addition will make the room seem more cosy. Add a winter spiced candle to the room for a Christmas ambience.
Flooring Makeover
Although it may seem like a big job initially, it can be a great way to totally change the look and feel of a room. Add a wood effect tile to your living space to create a warm and natural feel.
Furniture Rearrange
Christmas provides the perfect opportunity for a move around within the home to fit that Christmas tree in. Moving the furniture or refreshing the wall art can give a room a whole new look in just minutes and without spending a penny.
Deck the Halls
Want to give your guests a warm welcome, then first impressions count. If you’re planning on hanging a wreath on the door then give the door a fresh lick of paint first, remember it’s the first thing you’ll guests will see. De clutter the hall way and add some intricate decorations for a festive entrance.
Lighting
With the dark nights and time off work over the festive period then you want to make sure your rooms are well lit. Bright lights where needed in the kitchen and bathroom. Having the option of down lighters or a dimmer switch can add to the atmosphere and mood within the home.
Soft Furnishings
Christmas is the best time of year to shake up the soft furnishings, bring out the wool cushion covers and add some cosier textures to the room. Make sure there is an abundance of throws and blankets to hand for those chilly mornings and evenings.
Clean The Kids Rooms
As Santa always brings new toys December is a great time to have a sort out of children’s toys and clothes. Give away any outgrown toys and clothes to charity or pass them down to a friend. This way there will be space for the new gifts which they receive.
Snagging List
We all start the New Year with great plans of what we want to get done within the house and the list grows throughout the year but often you can get to December with a list as long as in January. Whether it’s a quick paint touch up, putting up a shelf or just changing those light bulbs which blew back in July, making these changes can make your home feel like the finished product.
Hopefully this post will give you a little inspiration to get those niggling jobs done before the madness of the Christmas period arrives.
