How to Keep Your Kitchen Tiles Looking Great

Kitchens! We all love them and whether you’re a keen cook or a microwave master, they play an important role in our lives. From tea and toast in the morning, to your Friday night pizza treat they’re the busiest room in the home – so of course you’ll want to keep them in tip top shape.

How to Keep Your Kitchen Tiles Looking Great

For many of us, tiling is the perfect way to achieve a professional looking kitchen without the hefty price tag. When first completed tiles can look fantastic – however, as with all wall and floor materials, your kitchen tiles will need some simple maintenance to prolong their life and keep them looking like new.

Both wall and floor kitchen tiles need a bit of TLC from time to time and giving them what they need before it’s too late, will save you a whole lot of hassle and disappointment in the long run.

There are a huge range of dedicated cleaning products available for your kitchen tiles but you don’t always need all of them all at once. Depending on how old your tiles are or how long it’s been since their last clean, you may decide that you need a slightly stronger cleaner. When cleaning marble kitchen tiles, it’s important to remember that acidic products (even vinegar) could cause damage to the surface, so try to clean more regularly with a mild soap to avoid any long tern staining. Once you have decided what grout and tile cleaner is right for you, you can get going!

Wall Tiles

You’ll firstly want to wipe over your kitchen wall tiles with a dry cloth to remove any excess dirt and grime that may have built up over time. If cleaning the grout, apply your specialised grout cleaner with a cloth and leave for around 30 minutes (or slightly longer for tougher stains). Once your cleaner has soaked it, use a grout brush to scrub the solution, removing any dirt or staining. For older stains you may need to repeat the process, being careful not to add too much cleaner to your grout. Once the dirt has been scrubbed away, simply wash down your tiles with clean water.

Floor Tiles

With floor tiles, you can wash away any surface dust or grime with a lightly dampened mop or cloth. As with your wall, you will want to apply your specialised kitchen tile grout cleaner for around 30 minutes (you may need to do this several times) – being careful not to saturate the floor as you add more layers or solution. Once you’ve scrubbed away that dirt, finish up by giving your floor a thorough mopping.

There are also specialist products available to help clean up both floor and wall tile surfaces. Although it is not a regular occurrence, occasionally tiles can stain or become dull. If this has happened to your tiles or you want to prevent your tiles from becoming lifeless, it’s worth investing in a colour intensifier or for white and pale coloured tiles, a tile brightener. Apply these to the surface of your kitchen tiles to give them a powerful and concentrated colour boost.

Remember: Look after your tiles correctly and they’ll give you a beautiful home that you can be proud of for years to come.
